Who is Mahaveer

Mahaveer, or Lord Mahavira, is the last and most prominent Tirthankara in Jain tradition, who lived over 2,500 years ago. He is considered the Arihanta, the one who has conquered inner passions and attained omniscience (Kevaljnana). Mahavira’s teachings form the core of Jain philosophy, focusing on ahimsa (non-violence), aparigraha (non-attachment), and anekantavada (the doctrine of manifold viewpoints). His life and messages continue to inspire millions and have had a lasting religious and cultural impact in India.

He is worshipped as the Jaina God by devas, humans, and other beings, and his spiritual journey from prince to enlightened ascetic is extensively documented in Jain scriptures. Mahavira’s emphasis on ethical living, self-discipline, and compassion remains central to Jain practice and philosophy.
