Karmabhoomi start in which era

In Jain cosmology, time is cyclical and divided into two halves: utsarpini (ascending) and avasarpini (descending). The current avasarpini is further subdivided into six aras (epochs), and karmabhoomi—the age of action—starts after the third ara called sushama-dukhama. Prior to karmabhoomi, there was bhogabhoomi, an age of enjoyment where wish-fulfilling trees (kalpavriksha) supplied all needs, and no labor or social order existed.

Karmabhoomi is significant in Jain doctrine because it is the only age when karma is actively bound and shed, making liberation (moksha) attainable. This era was inaugurated by the first Tirthankara, Rishabhdev (Adinatha), who taught essential arts such as asi (sword/defense), masi (writing and accountancy), and krishi (agriculture), thereby establishing social order and means of livelihood.

Thus, karmabhoomi is not a historical period in terms of BCE or CE dating but a cosmological epoch within the Jain framework of time cycles, emphasizing moral and spiritual evolution in a world where action and consequence are operative.
