Jain temple building produced some of the most remarkable architecture in India, and the pilgrimage sites remain in continuous use.

Shatrunjaya at Palitana in Gujarat holds hundreds of temples across its ridges and is the most important Svetambara site. The Dilwara temples at Mount Abu are known for marble carving of a fineness that is difficult to credit in person. Shravanabelagola in Karnataka holds the monolithic figure of Bahubali, anointed once every twelve years in the Mahamastakabhisheka. Ranakpur, Sammed Shikharji in Jharkhand - where twenty of the twenty-four Tirthankaras are held to have attained liberation - and Pavapuri, the site of Mahavira's nirvana, complete the principal circuit.
